Yes. Wrist based heart rate sensors are not expected to provide the most accurate heart rate readings. Having said that, we've noticed a very close proximation with chest straps and are very optimistic. Calories burned are a direct correlation of heart rate and therefore when the heart rate measured is not accurate, the calorie burn measured will also not be accurate.
